A Line at a Time #22 - THE RESULTS

Everything I thought I knew has now left me...
Where am I? What am I waking to?
They waited below and they called to me; some with encouragement, others with derision.
Do you think you'll be able to put any weight on that other foot?
Broken, alone, and wandering. . .

Where did you go?

We never figured, "I'll just leave my jacket out here, so it won't get crud on it," would be Andy's last words

While we sang by the fence in the snow

I waited in the wind for you, but you never came

When I turned my head

You left your soul....I feel it, your heart.....come heal it

They say he didn't have a chance because the weather turned

The lost are lost... the broken are broken... all may be gone

But look in the cracks, look through the slats

The passing of time cracks and erodes

The ghosts are still here, and they have long memories

Peel back the layers, open the shutters that hold the pain

(Wendy blinked back tears as she gazed at the crumbling hacienda; she was going to fucking KILL her realtor)

Once this was my home - it holds my memories still

As the door glides wide....my heart will smile....at the beauty within

The dead-orange paint pulled back like bedsheets in my hands

Yes imprints of our passing flow as breezes across time

But memories are forever held - inside our walls

Thick scribes of time and name etched forever My name has been covered and you've "moved on" to another The cutting started simply, but then I needed to see their names Layers of lives, each hidden by the next Everyone I've ever known is carved into my skin Words come, words go, words to endure, words to cherish Words surround us; floating past. Some forgotten, many too-long remembered. Forming the script of our lives. A blending of people, a meshing of fate

Death awaits in a rusted field No longer useful or needed Rows and rows and rows and rows all churned I trudge through the freshly plowed fields knowing there is much work left for these tired old bones to do The tractor would rust and eventually decay, but she feared the memories never would Not yet ready to be put out to pasture...bitter irony prevails After Ma died, Pa couldn't bring himself to even work the fields; "What's the point?" he asked no one in particular Silent and cold until the heartbeat of Spring green shoots of life will be born anew in spring's splendor...

Clouds chasing faith, all that awaits - a green field cries. . .
Dark and dreary....a steeple reaches heights unknown
Green fields surround hope as the clouds of doubt cluster
A grace-filled canopy covers our lives---waiting to be recognized---wanted...
In the darkness there may lie something greater

With time comes life
With air we breathe... with love we grow
Enhanced by sunshine, reflective and subtle
A heavy, gun-metal gray door led him into the courtyard with the other inmates where for the first time in weeks he felt the sun on his face and drank in the scent of the newly blooming apple trees, just over the fence and out of his reach
Bathed in sunshine and warmth
A fragile, fleeting beauty; powerful in possibilities.

Dry away - rust away - the swing now moves silent
A child has grown, the park is too small, the laughter is gone
Fallen leaves, sticky mud, waiting expectantly
No footprints in the murky pool of mud
Longing for squeals of childish delight
Empty seat, empty room, empty heart

There's a lady in a field, her silhouette dances with the single rose. . . waiting. . . Framed by orb's opalescent light - a beacon to the seeker Standing alone....the moonlight engulfs her...as she waits The lilies stand tall as she twirls and side steps… pausing… Old man, in the moon, your shiny, bald pate backlights Mother Earth’s beauty But below velvet petals a thorn can pierce Endless, searching, the night creeps in with a soft touch She stands, bathed in the shrouding twilight, waiting for him to arrive She has never felt so empty…so hungry The contributors: There's a lady in a field, her silhouette dances with the single rose. . . waiting. . . Through the eyes, the life waits - the time changes, the love becomes real Behind these walls, vision engulfs me, desire entices me Sealed within decay's monochromatic prism, life's colored fistula eternally refracted beyond his grasp. Illusion or destiny - both beckon from the greyness within Imprisoned by the past only to be freed by the beauty Light emerges, peeling the years away Timid steps from dark decay reach the bright

Yes, the rules were changed slightly and it worked. First, the #alaat will once every two weeks. Second, the two poems will be included in the monthly issue of Soft Whispers. And three, you can just post your line on Twitter - make sure you put @wisneski before your line AND #alaat after your line. Other than that. . . ENJOY!

The lost sky of winter - calm, patient as silhouettes dance away But I am still, beneath my coat of fog and misty veil Hiding, shivering, deep amongst the shadows We breathe in the season, while awaiting the warm color of the sun The sky is held up by frozen trees She leaves us in winter; her glorious soul fades into the mist There's not enough warmth in the world Ghostly as in silhouettes
